This article explores the penetration of Hindutva, a form of Hindu ethnic nationalism, into the popular culture of contemporary Indian society. This topic is relevant to the current political reality associated with the strengthening and universalization of nationalism. The subject of this analysis is the form of Hindutva’s ideological political discourse in contemporary Indian cinema.</p> <p>Purpose. This article aims to analyze Hindu nationalism in the form of Hindutva in cinema as one of the cultural industries of contemporary consumer society.</p> <p>Methodology. Methodologically, the article draws on principles proposed in the interdisciplinary historiography of nationalism, also highlighting the achievements of the visual turn.</p> <p>Results. This article demonstrates that Hindutva, as a form of ethnic Hindu nationalism, plays an important role in the development of contemporary India. Hindutva not only represents a form of political Hinduism but is also actively visualized in popular culture. This article analyzes the main trends in the visualization of Hindutva in the cultural visual industries of popular culture, including 1) the representation of Hindu nationalist images in contemporary Indian cinema, 2) the forms and strategies of instrumentalizing Hindutva in visual discourse, and 3) prospects for further mainstreaming Hindutva ideas in the cinematic discourse of Indian society in the context of the strengthening and growth of political Hinduism and Hindu nationalism. The author believes that the visualization of Hindutva ideas in cinema has actualized society’s collective demand for greater representation of ethnic values in the visual practices of contemporary consumer culture. It is assumed that Hindutva ideas visualized in cinema present a traditionalist alternative to modernization, transforming anti-modernity into an acceptable and consumable cultural product.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Обоснование. </p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Индия</kwd><kwd>этнический национализм</kwd><kwd>хиндутва</kwd><kwd>политический индуизм</kwd><kwd>индуистский национализм</kwd><kwd>антимодерн</kwd><kwd>кинематограф</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>India</kwd><kwd>ethnic nationalism</kwd><kwd>Hindutva</kwd><kwd>political Hinduism</kwd><kwd>Hindu nationalism</kwd><kwd>anti-modernity</kwd><kwd>cinema</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group/></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Abramov, D.
