FORMATION OF THE DESIGN CULTURE BASIS AMONG STUDENTS IN THE PROCESS OF STUDYING THE INDUSTRIAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES OF THE BAUHAUS

Abstract

Varlamova Natalya Andreevna graduated Vladimir State University with MSc in Design (2005–2011).

Member of ADR (Association of designers of Russia) since 2012.

Assistant professor, then Director of Studies, in design, ergonomics, flat design methodology, Information Technology in arts and culture at the Faculty of Design, Arts and restoration, in Vladimir State University.

In addition, Varlamova N.A. was conducting a study on the design methodology, design culture, methods improving the efficiency of designing, the selection of learning tasks revealing its essence as a strategy of design in teaching methods and education programmes.

Varlamova N.A. is the author of several professional and scientific articles based on the following learning points emerged from the findings of the studies. Some of them are: the mastering of the methods of designing objects by the students on the basis of the comprehensieve approach; enhancing thinking skills in the process of student-designer’s quasiprofessional activities.

Purpose. The study aims to identify ways of creating a design culture in the training course of designers. The definition of the named concept, its components are considered. The importance of design culture principles, which were formed in the process of design activities formation and the possibility of their application in modern education conditions, is noted.

Methodology. A training model is proposed, based on the identification and study by students of these principles forming the basis of the design culture, as well as their application in the process of educational design activities. The contents of the designated model are given: an approximate theoretical base containing a description and examples of Bauhaus teaching methods, the works of the most famous authors, their inventions and developments.

Results. The conclusions are formulated and presented, which are the result of the considered design objects analysis and at the same time the basic principles used by students in the process of developing design objects.

Practical implications. The existing research outputs саn be used in the field of educational design activities.
